The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien was published in 1937. C.S. Lewis wrote a review the same year which you can read
here. He makes some interesting comments that Tolkien had created a new world brimming with history, much as authors like Lewis Carroll and George MacDonald before him. Though the most interesting and amusing comment his his final sentence,
Prediction is dangerous: but The Hobbit may well prove a classic.
